Kia ora, I am Yumi
Yumi Perkins is a Certified Co-active Professional Coach (CPCC), Associate Certified Coach (ACC), and Licensed Professional Counsellor, known for her warmth, insight, and ability to guide clients through meaningful personal and professional transformation.
Raised biculturally in the USA with Japanese-American roots, Yumi brings a deeply empathetic and globally minded perspective to her work. After earning a BA in Economics from Colorado College and spending time teaching scuba diving in Thailand, she returned to Colorado to complete a Master’s in Counselling Psychology at the University of Denver. This launched a varied and people-centred career spanning psychotherapy, consulting, and human resources.
In 2019, a sudden cancer diagnosis required Yumi to close her private practice and step back from work to focus on treatment and recovery. After resurfacing during the COVID-19 pandemic, she pivoted into behavioural science consulting, gaining first-hand insight into how corporations approach strategic decision making. A second rare cancer diagnosis in 2021 prompted yet another reinvention—this time drawing her back to values-led, in-person work doing HR for an autism company, and then ultimately into coaching.
Today, Yumi works with individuals navigating change, seeking clarity, or stepping into a new phase of life or leadership. She brings her full self to each coaching relationship—experience, humour, honesty, and an unrelenting belief in what’s possible. Her approach is deeply human, grounded in presence, purpose, and real connection.
